Building Projects

                Academic and Behavior Schools (ABS) EastSTATUS: OPEN Academic and Behavior Schools East is specifically designed for students with intellectual, developmental, and behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and other significant health impairments. Designed by Houston architectural firm Cre8 Architects, the new facility is largely based on its sister school, Academic and Behavior School West, whose new campus opened in August 2020. The new campus will be built on the existing campus' field, located in southeast Harris County.

                Academic and Behavior Schools (ABS) WestSTATUS: OPEN Harris County Department of Education broke ground on April 3, 2019. Harris County Department of Education broke ground on April 3, 2019.Academic and Behavior School West (ABS West) was relocated to a new campus and continues to serve students with intellectual or developmental disabilities and challenging behaviors throughout the greater Houston region.

                Adult Education Learning CenterSTATUS: OPEN Harris County Department of Education broke ground in early 2022 on the new Adult Education Learning Center.                 Barrett Station Head Start and Early Head StartSTATUS: OPEN The campus of Barrett Station Head Start is expanding. Four pre-manufactured classrooms will house the campus’s new Early Head Start program. The campus of Barrett Station Head Start is expanding. Four pre-manufactured classrooms will house the campus’s new Early Head Start program.

                Coolwood Head StartSTATUS: OPEN The new Coolwood Head Start building will be 13,830 square feet and feature new training rooms, administrative offices, conference rooms, an updated kitchen, and six classrooms. It will be able to accommodate 120 students in the east Harris County community, an area it has served under the HCDE umbrella since 1999. The opening has been delayed due to damage from Hurricane Beryl.                 Humble Early Head StartSTATUS: OPEN Head Start classrooms are currently housed in two existing pre-manufactured buildings on the property of the Journey of Faith United Methodist Church. Under the Humble Early Head Start expansion, an additional pre-manufactured structure will be assembled specifically to accommodate four Early Head Start classrooms.
