About HCDE
Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) is the oldest public education entity in the county, providing specialized services to help the 25 independent school districts and charter schools in our area to close the gaps in education.
At HCDE, we serve nearly 150,000 students each year through early childhood education; our schools for students with disabilities, reluctant learners and those faced with addiction; GED, ESL and workforce development programs for adults; regional after-school programs; and school-based physical, occupational and music therapy. We also provide support for educators through professional development, school safety training and educator certification.
Through these specialized shared services, we save school districts and taxpayers money.
Additionally, HCDE manages a national purchasing cooperative that saves school districts and government agencies millions of dollars each year.
