CenterPoint Energy awarded $5,000 to CASE for Kids to support the All-Earth Ecobot Challenge. The project will serve 350 students in 4th-8th grades to help them develop skills in STEM subjects, problem-solving and teamwork. Gardening Know How awarded $1,000 to ABS-West’s (Schools Division) for its gardening program. By growing fruits and vegetables, ABS-West’s students with disabilities will better understand where their food comes from and gain more positive food attitudes. They also increase fine and gross motor skills by planting and digging and learn responsibility and ways to care for the environment. - ExpandEd/Every Hour Counts – CASE for Kids – Middle School Social-Emotional Learning
ExpandEd Schools/Every Hour Counts awarded $58,348.50 to CASE for Kids for the Middle School Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Initiative. The program will build capacity of teachers and community educators to address the SEL needs of students at four campuses in Alief, Humble and Galena Park ISDs. The program will train 32 teachers, over 100 community educators, and serve up to 240 students. - H-E-B – Teaching and Learning Center – Early Childhood Winter Conference
H-E-B awarded $500 to the Teaching and Learning Center for the 36th Annual R.T. Garcia Early Childhood Winter Conference. The conference provides high quality, affordable professional development to approximately 1,000 educators that serve young children, aged 3 to 8. The full-day event features over 50 breakout sessions that range from early childhood, mindfulness in literacy, math/science, social and emotional development, culturally responsive bilingual early literacy interventions and intentionality in the Pre-K classroom by nationally known keynote and featured speakers. - Youth Gardening Grant – ABS-West – The Knights Kontainer Garden
Youth Gardening Grant awarded $1,000 to ABS-West for its Knights Kontainer Gardening Program. The funds will assist 32 students, ages 5-18+, with their gardening activities. - KidsGardening and The Scott Miracle-Gro – Head Start – Tidwell Campus Gardens
KidsGarden and The Scott Miracle-Gro awarded $1,500 to support Head Start’s Healthy Living Garden Project at the Tidwell Head Start campus. This is a school garden program that uses food and nutrition education to teach the importance of healthy lifestyles to preschoolers, families, and the community. Funding benefits 28 unduplicated students and families during the 2021-2022 school year. - Dollar General Literacy Foundation – Summer Reading Program – ABS-East & ABS-West
Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded $2,900 to the Schools Division ABS-East and West’s Leaders as Readers Summer Reading program. The reading program will serve 90 students. - Texas Workforce Commission – Adult Education & Literacy Employer – Adult Education
Texas Workforce Commission awarded $390,243 to Adult Education to implement an Integrated Education and Training-Workforce Literacy (IET-WL) pilot program by developing curricula for the workplace, participant job placement, and tracking. HCDE will partner with MAREK, a construction-based company that is one of the largest and leading construction companies in Houston, to plan and design a curriculum that offers integrated services and intensive services to 70 individuals for 18 months and will incorporate two 20-week sessions. - Department of Health & Human Services – Early Head Start

DHHS awarded Head Start $4,792,502 for its Early Head Start continuation. - Texas Workforce Commission – Adult Education in partnership with Sylvan Learning Center – Family Math Literacy Initiative (FMLI)
Texas Workforce Commission awarded $476,547 to Adult Education, in partnership with Sylvan Learning Centers to create a statewide FMLI Call Center. The FMLI Call Center will target parents or caretakers of families and individuals who: 1) are basic skill deficient; or 2) lack a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent; or 3) are English Language Learners; and 4) are AEL-eligible participants who are not currently served by a AEL provider. The call center will provide services to 400 participants and their families a month and 4,800 30-minute sessions annually that focus on learning basic math operations and enhancing digital skill building. - Babies in Baytown – Head Start – If You’re Happy and You Know It
Babies in Baytown awarded Head Start $1,000 for its Art in the Park project. This project stimulates babies' senses, encourages bonding for 100 families, and brings different sectors of the community together around art. - Texas Workforce Commission - Adult Education in partnership with Eight Million Stories – Building Construction Trades
Texas Workforce Commission awarded $112,016 to Adult Education through a partnership with Eight Million Stories, to provide intake and assessment, adult education, soft skills/career preparation, internships/externships, and job placement for 70 young adults, ages 18-21. Services will assist participants in obtaining an Electrician Apprentice License. - Bank of Texas – Head Start – REAL SuperMENtors Read
Bank of Texas awarded $7,020 to Head Start’s SuperMENtors program. This funding will help offset the cost of purchasing 195 Scholastic Inc. book sets for 1,268 Head Start and Early Head Start students. - Texas Education Agency – CASE for Kids – 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC), Cycle 10 Year 5
The Texas Education Agency awarded $1,500,000 to support CASE for Kids with its 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) Cycle 10 Year 5 application. Services focus on academics, behavior, graduation rates and social-emotional learning for low-income students at 10 centers in school districts and charters. Requested funds will provide academic and enrichment services for 975 students and 400 family members. - Texas Education Agency – CASE for Kids – 21st CCLC, Cycle 11 Year 2
Texas Education Agency awarded $1,700,000 to support CASE for Kids with its 21st CCLC, Cycle 11 Year 2. The program focuses on academic improvement, social emotional learning, college and career readiness and family engagement for elementary, middle, and high school students. The program will operate 10 centers in five school districts and two charters, serving over 1,000 students and 400 family members. - Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities – School-Based Therapy – The Art and Science of Handwriting Intervention
Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities awarded $5,860 to School-Based Therapy Services for training on handwriting intervention. The one-day workshop will feature Dr. Beverly Moskowitz, Owner and CEO of Real OT Solutions in Philadelphia, PA, and author of the Size Matters Handwriting Program. The workshop will cover research on handwriting instruction, hands-on lab activities, and other issues related to handwriting as an intervention method for students with disabilities. The Henderson Foundation awarded $1,000 to CASE for Kids for its All-Earth Ecobot Challenge program. In its 13th year, Ecobot is an innovative robotic engineering competition that engages 120 students from 4th-8th grades in STEM-based problem-solving activities. - U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services (DHHS) – Early Head Start Expansion-Child Care Partnership
DHHS awarded $4,602,481 to Head Start to support its Early Head Start (EHS) Expansion and EHS Child Care in Harris County, Texas. Funding from this grant would expand access to EHS services to 106 children and families who need it most in a full-time, center-based program option. - U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services – Head Start/Early Head Start Continuation
DHHS awarded $12,227,579 to Head Start for program operations and training and technical assistance to continue serving 1,000 Head Start students and 64 Early Head Start students in a full-time, center-based program option in east Harris County, Texas. - U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services – Head Start – American Rescue Plan
DHHS awarded $1,517,162 to Head Start to hire program staff to start the Fall 2021 school year. Teaching assistants attend professional development and campus staff will conduct home visits and family commitments meetings with classes to follow. - Texas Education Agency (TEA) – CASE for Kids – 21st CCLC, Cycle 11 Year 1
TEA awarded $1,700,000 to CASE for Kids for its 21st CCLC, Cycle 11, Year 1 program that allows 10 district and charter schools in Alief ISD, Clear Creek ISD, Galena Park ISD, Houston ISD and Humble ISD to provide afterschool programs. These programs serve 1,046 elementary, middle, and high school students and 400 parents/legal guardians. - Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities – School-based Therapy – Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Training
Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities awarded the School-Based Therapy Services division $7,500 for a guest speaker for its Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Training. This training was for 160 occupational, physical and music therapy providers. - Hogg Foundation – Head Start – Additional Mental Health Support
The Hogg Foundation awarded $20,000 to support Head Start Program by implementing a mental wellness response plan that promotes resilience in students and families dealing with chronic stress brought on by traumatic events such as COVID-19 and Winter Storm Uri. With this grant, 150 students and families will receive three 45-minute counseling sessions. - U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Service – Head Start – Coolwood Campus – Disaster Assistant Fund

Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded $3,000 to the Schools Division’s Adventures in Reading (SD-AiR) program to purchase instructional materials, classroom library sets and 111 books and novels. The SD-AiR Program will serve 260 students in its four schools – ABS-East, ABS-West, Highpoint School, and Fortis Academy. - Bank of Texas – Head Start – SuperMENtors Program
Bank of Texas awarded $7,020 to Head Start’s SuperMENtors program. This funding will help offset the cost of purchasing 195 Scholastic Inc. book sets for 1,164 Head Start and Early Head Start students. - Texas Education Agency (TEA) – CASE for Kids – 21st CCLC, Cycle 10, Year 4
