The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded $9,000 to Head Start for their Read and Rise Family Literacy program that served 1,064 families. The program had several components: 1) adult education instruction; 2) family literacy and 3) hands-on strategies for building literacy at home. The program consisted of workshop sessions offered virtually or in person at 16 Head Start/Early Head Start campuses in Harris County.

The FMLI Call Center will target parents or caretakers of families and individuals who: 1) are basic skill deficient; or 2) lack a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent; or 3) are English Language Learners; and 4) are AEL-eligible participants who are not currently served by a AEL provider.
