Classes in GED and English as a second language are offered to adults in the Houston/Harris County area through our highly qualified teachers. Locations for classes are situated within the community and include schools, churches and community centers.
The Center for Afterschool, Summer and Expanded Learning (CASE for Kids)
is an intermediary for afterschool. CASE for Kids, formerly the
Cooperative for After-School Enrichment, leverages community resources
and strengthens the capacity of the out-of-school time field. Services
benefit kids and happen before and after school, on weekends and during
Board of Trustees
Seven board members act to establish policies governing the operation of
HCDE. The board is elected by the citizens of Harris County. Board
calendars, agendas, minutes and policies are posted and archived
Choice Partners Cooperative
Choice Partners national cooperative offers quality, legal procurement and contract solutions to meet the purchasing needs of school districts and other governmental entities. Through this cooperative purchasing program, members gain immediate access to legal, competitively bid contracts they need. Members save time and money on the bidding and purchasing process.
Communications and Public Information
Communications and Public Information serves as the communications center for HCDE. We also maintain compliance on behalf of HCDE through the Public Information Act and ensure that requests are handled appropriately in a timely and legal manner.
Alternative Certification for teachers or principals prepares aspiring degreed professionals to become either teachers or principals. The separate programs include mentoring and field experience.
The Research and Evaluation Institute at HCDE provides quality,
scientific-based evaluation services that meet the needs of HCDE, school
districts and other community groups. We can assist with human subjects
protection and institutional review board (IRB) needs.
Foundations and Alliances
HCDE is allied with several groups which provide services to the education public, including students, educators and community. These beneficial organizations include the Education Foundation of Harris County, the Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN) through the Texas Education Agency, the Academic Decathlon and the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
