Harris County Department of Education compiles the Harris County School Districts Comprehensive Calendar, listing all 25 area school districts' holidays and beginning and end dates.
Key Dates for the 2026–2027 School Year
- The first day of school begins as early as Aug. 5 (Crosby ISD) and as late as Aug. 19 (Pearland ISD). Most districts begin classes between Aug. 11–13.
- Crosby ISD will continue its 4-day instructional week, with Fridays designated as student holidays.
- All districts will observe Thanksgiving break during the week of Nov. 23–27, with New Caney ISD beginning its holiday on Nov. 20.
- Most districts begin winter break on Dec. 21 and return on Jan. 4 or Jan. 5. Students in New Caney ISD start winter break the earliest on Dec. 17, while Crosby ISD and Deer Park ISD begin on Dec. 18.
- Spring break schedules vary across the county:
- March 8–12: Alief, Channelview, Clear Creek, Crosby, Deer Park, Galena Park, Houston, Katy, La Porte, Pasadena, Pearland, Sheldon, Spring Branch, Stafford, and Waller.
- March 15–19: Aldine, Cypress-Fairbanks, Dayton, Goose Creek, Humble, Klein, Spring, and Tomball.
- March 22–26: Huffman.
- March 26–April 2: New Caney.
- Most districts will observe a spring holiday on March 26, with several extending the break through March 29. Huffman and New Caney incorporate these dates into their longer spring breaks.
- Additional student holidays and staff workdays vary by district, with many occurring throughout September, October, February, and April.
- School years conclude between May 19 and June 3. Waller ISD ends the earliest on May 19, while Aldine ISD has the latest last day of school on June 3.

Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) is a unique hybrid educational service provider supporting school districts, governmental entities and nonprofits in the third-largest county in the country. As the last remaining county office of education in Texas, HCDE directly serves students from birth to adult and provides services that support more than 257,300 students and 39,600 educators each year. HCDE also provides services to dozens of governmental agencies and nonprofits.
