HCDE Principal Certification Academy - Program Overview
Harris County Department of Education's (HCDE) Principal Certification Academy is a state-approved certification program that provides a comprehensive, high-quality, learning-centered leadership preparation for aspiring administrators to become effective school leaders. The academy curriculum is fully aligned with the Texas standards, domains, and competencies for principal certification and focuses on the essential skill sets necessary to successfully lead high-performing schools.
HCDE Principal Certification Academy - Residential with Practicum Track
This track is specifically designed for individuals who already hold an advanced degree (master's or higher) from an accredited university or are in the last semester of completing their advanced degree. Structured as a cohort model, Residential with Practicum Track focuses on immersing the participants in a rigorous academic coursework offered in a face-to-face format with weekend seminars during the school year. The curriculum is also augmented with authentic, practical, contextual learning through a two-semester practicum under the coaching and guidance of an experienced mentor principal and the program field supervisor. The program is designed for:
- Successful completion of the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)/Texas Education Agency (TEA) Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES 068 Principal Test); and
- Increase the knowledge and skill sets required for exemplary practice in the field of campus-level educational leadership.
